DESCRIPTION
A simulator designed for the training of nursing assistants specialising in patients under one year of age, which allows the practice of techniques that are difficult to perform in an educational setting, such as caring for a newborn and administering childhood vaccinations.
OBJECTIVE
Providing training in procedures related with the comprehensive and safe care of newborns and infants, ensuring a professional, responsible approach that prioritises the child’s wellbeing.
ACTIVITIES
- Caring for a newborn:
- Choosing the appropriate hygiene products for these patients.
- Hygiene and care of newborns, taking into account safe practices.
- Procedures for cleaning and caring for the umbilical cord.
- Postnatal health education. This includes aspects such as postnatal recovery, support for breastfeeding and guidance on bottle-feeding, creating a safe environment for the newborn, etc.
- Childhood vaccinations: The student must administer the hexavalent vaccine (Infanrix) and the Pneumococcal vaccine (Prevenar 13) to an 11 month old child in accordance with the full protocol.
- Checking the status of the vaccine: expiry date, proper storage and type of vaccine.
- Preparing the necessary materials for application. Intramuscular or subcutaneous administration, as appropriate.
- Management of mild adverse reactions and guidance for parents on post-vaccination care.
