DESCRIPTION
This simulator allows trainees to practice key healthcare procedures related with sterilisation, instrument safety, patient care and infection prevention.
OBJECTIVE
To simulate real-life scenarios involving the implementation of hygiene and infection prevention measures, ensuring the safety of both patients and healthcare professionals.
ACTIVITIES
- Sterilisation of medical equipment:
- Receipt and sorting of materials.
- A preliminary inspection to check for any damage or wear and tear that could compromise its safety and functionality.
- Instrument packaging: chemical control and sterilisation.
- Review of medical instruments:
- Verification of identity, procedures, equipment and critical resources.
- Checking the sterile field and performing a post-operative count, verifying that the instruments have been sterilised and ensuring that the materials used have been correctly counted.
- Patient care:
- Making up beds of various types: changing sheets and duvet covers.
- Cleanliness and tidiness of the patient’s ward, ensuring optimal hygiene standards.
- Measures to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases when dealing with patients in isolation:
- Handwashing technique.
- Selection and fitting of the necessary PPE, such as face masks, gloves, leg coverings, etc.
- Collection of urine and stool samples:
- Correct identification and labelling of samples prior to collection.
- Use of sterile containers and appropriate collection techniques to prevent contamination.
