DESCRIPTION

This simulator allows trainees to practice key healthcare procedures related with sterilisation, instrument safety, patient care and infection prevention.

OBJECTIVE

To simulate real-life scenarios involving the implementation of hygiene and infection prevention measures, ensuring the safety of both patients and healthcare professionals.

ACTIVITIES

  • Sterilisation of medical equipment:
    • Receipt and sorting of materials.
    • A preliminary inspection to check for any damage or wear and tear that could compromise its safety and functionality.
    • Instrument packaging: chemical control and sterilisation.
  • Review of medical instruments:
    • Verification of identity, procedures, equipment and critical resources.
    • Checking the sterile field and performing a post-operative count, verifying that the instruments have been sterilised and ensuring that the materials used have been correctly counted.
  • Patient care:
    • Making up beds of various types: changing sheets and duvet covers.
    • Cleanliness and tidiness of the patient’s ward, ensuring optimal hygiene standards.
  • Measures to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases when dealing with patients in isolation:
    • Handwashing technique.
    • Selection and fitting of the necessary PPE, such as face masks, gloves, leg coverings, etc.
  • Collection of urine and stool samples:
    • Correct identification and labelling of samples prior to collection.
    • Use of sterile containers and appropriate collection techniques to prevent contamination.
