DESCRIPTION
A training simulator designed to teach essential laboratory techniques in the field of biochemistry. It allows students to familiarise themselves with standard equipment, understand the main experimental processes and apply the necessary protocols to work safely and minimise risks.
OBJECTIVE
Providing training in various methods of analysis, identification and laboratory cultivation, developing technical skills, scientific rigour and best practice.
ACTIVITIES
- Use of Colilert for calculating the most probable number (MPN) and detecting coliform bacteria and E. coli.
- Western Blot Protocol for identifying proteins based on their molecular weight.
- DNA purification using magnetic beads as the most effective method for DNA isolation.
- Cell culture process for maintaining cells in vitro, while preserving their physiological, biochemical and genetic properties to the greatest extent possible.
- Cell staining: fundamental techniques for the accurate identification and detailed study of microorganisms.
- Positive fungal stain: It allows fungal structures to be visualised and identified by staining them directly.
- Negative yeast stain: It uses a dye that does not penetrate the cells, creating a dark contrast in the background and leaving the cells lighter for examination.
- Gram stain: Classifies bacteria as Gram-positive or Gram-negative based on the composition of its cell walls.
- Specific staining of endospores: It highlights the endospores within the bacterial cells, making it possible to distinguish them.
