DESCRIPTION
This virtual reality simulator provides an opportunity to teach students about the safety measures to be observed when carrying out maintenance work on a wind turbine, such as the use of PPE and the procedures for energising and de-energising the system.
OBJECTIVE
Training students in the rigorous application of safety measures and lockout/tagout procedures, ensuring that work is carried out safely, responsibly and in accordance with regulations.
ACTIVITIES
- Explanation, identification and provision of PPE for:
- Work at height.
- Electrical work.
- Hydraulic works.
- Carrying out nine LOTO procedures to ensure safety during wind turbine maintenance:
- Disconnecting and re-establishing communication with the control centre (versions 1 and 2) to prevent unintended actions.
- Cutting off and restoring power to the medium-voltage cells, thereby interrupting the high-voltage power supply.
- Stopping and starting the wind turbine using an HMI.
- Rotation of the wind turbine, and locking and unlocking of the yaw system.
- Locking and unlocking the rotor’s rotation by placing the blades in the flag position.
- Depressurisation and pressurisation of the hydraulic system.
- Access to the rotor, avoiding static loading of the blades.
- Locking and unlocking blades for subsequent maintenance.
